Birth Stories

Port Perry Lamaze is an affiliate of both Discover Birth and  Durham Lamaze Associates.  We teach prenatal classes in Port Perry, Ontario to assist clients in Scugog and throughout North Durham Region.

Classes are taught by Registered Nurses who are Lamaze-Certified Childbirth Educators — meaning you only get top-qualified instructors with years of experience.

Prenatal Classes

We recognize that today, people are very busy and may not be able to commit to the traditional 6-8 week series of prenatal classes. While we do occasionally offer classes spread across 6 nights on consecutive weeks, we realize that most people cannot commit to this number of days. So, we offer a unique service in the Durham area: two-day prenatal series offered on weekends. We offer both single weekend (Saturday + Sunday) classes, and two weekend (2 consecutive Saturdays) classes for busy parents to be.

In Fall 2009, The Port Perry Star newspaper published an article on Alba Aguanno's prenatal classes written by David Stell in the paper's  Through Her Eyes supplement.

"She found the breathing exercises you taught very helpful. The baby latched on right after birth so other than being sore things are going well. Thank you for the information."   (H.D.)

"The baby arrived after 9 hours of med-free labour. My wife went through the whole thing with nothing but a birthing ball and 45 minutes of gas before 50 mins of pushing! Thanks so much for all the information and advice in the classes, it  did help in labour and still helps now."  (C.T.)

When in my pregnancy should I take prenatal classes?

You should take prenatal classes at least one month prior to your due date.  You don’t want to schedule the classes too early because you want to have the material fresh in your mind for your birthing day; however, space is limited and classes do book up early, so don’t leave it too long before registering.

"I do feel better prepared for both labour and delivery and post-partum care. Thank you."
